British Labour politician Keith Vaz is said to be hoping to dazzle voters during his campaign trail in Leicester East by bringing in some Bollywood stars, like Shilpa Shetty.
Shetty, 34, has known Vaz, 53, who is defending a 15,876 majority, since he invited her to meet Tony Blair at the Commons after she won Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.
“In India, Bollywood stars stand for parliament themselves,” the Telegraph quoted a member of Vaz’s campaign team as saying.
“It will be lovely to see them bring a bit of razzmatazz to the campaign,” the member added.

Leader of Britain’s House of Commons Jack Straw presented the award to the 31-year old actress at a gala dinner held at the Durbar Court of Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Saturday, as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of election of Keith Vaz, NRI leader, Labour MP and former minister for FCO.
In her brief credence speech, Shetty said Vaz played an important role when she was racially abused by some of the contestants. “He screamed the loudest,” she acknowledged. Glorifying the work of Vaz both for the Asian community and the society as a whole, Straw, who was the guest of honour, said, “Keith has worked assiduously as an ambassador for New Britain. Keith represents everything that is good in our party.”
