English actress Kate Beckinsale has been awarded 20,000 pounds as libel damages over a newspaper claim that she had been dropped from a remake of ‘Barbarella’.
Beckinsale, 35, was not at the High Court in London for the settlement, but her solicitor Graham Atkins has said that the story in the Daily Express was entirely false and had caused considerable embarrassment.
He said that by claiming that Beckinsale was dropped from the film, it wrongly suggested that her career “was in decline”.
Atkins told Justice Eady that Beckinsale was never in discussions about the role, originally played by Jane Fonda, and that there was never a possibility she would be part of the project.
It followed that she had not been passed over in favour of rival Hollywood actress Rose McGowan.
The article, which was also published on the newspaper’s website, stated that the ‘Barbarella’ remake was “expected to be a big commercial hit so it will be a real blow to Kate.”
“This article wrongly gave the impression that the claimant”s career is in decline,” the BBC quoted Atkins as saying.
The newspaper’s counsel, Ian Helme, offered its sincere apology, and said that it was happy to pay damages and Beckinsale’s legal fees.
Brit singer Carl Barat has revealed that he and his ex-bandmate Pete Doherty are busy setting a date for The Libertines reunion next year.
Barat, 31, has revealed that he and Doherty, 30, have been discussing plans at length over the phone in recent weeks.
“Lots of people have come up to me saying a reunion would be a good idea. And I do think so too,” the Sun quoted him as saying.
“I’d love to do it. It was a good band. I don’t want to just do gigs. I want to make new material.
“We haven’t got a date yet but it will happen if Pete stays on his current trajectory.
“Pete’s very keen and persuasive. He rings me up and tells me he is going to keep on the straight and narrow,” he added.
Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner has been sued for three billion dollars by a woman who claims to be the reincarnation of “Venus Aphrodite Demilio”.
Sheri Allred, who claims that she is possessed by “the most beautifulest angel lusefer”, has filed papers at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
According to TMZ, in the lengthy and incoherent statement filed, Allred claims that the Playboy mogul is part of a paedophile organisation, which targeted her when she was five.
“Yes, sir I am asking for 3 billion dollars from Mr. Hefner. He’s been after me since I was a baby,” Contactmusic quoted the statement as reading.
“Along with a pedifile organization in L.A. When I was about 5 yrs. Old He mysteriously was underneath my bed and he grabbed my arm and said that he and forsay the beatles and he mentioned the names of them.
“I asked like in my head, since I’m a hat everone in the world heres my thought’s, a good way to establish peace. So I thought and said you’d better let go of my hand,” the statement said.
Allred, who insists she was “born the biggest hat in the world”, claims that Hugh has ruined her life and the lives of her adopted parents.
“He’s always mayed my life my adopted families lives a mess you realize he’s suppose to be be the centaur of the greek gods. And since I’m really a reincarnation, I really am Venus Aphrodite Demilo the goddess. Along with roger dawson he’s odyeseuos and everyone I know knows this (sic),” she added.
In the rest of the suit, Allred claims to be part of the “John Gotti Mafia”, and says that she belongs to the Gettys, the wealthy oil family.
‘Nicole Kidman sacks US publicist’

Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman has reportedly fired her US publicist, after the recent string of flops at the box office.
The Aussie actress has parted ways with senior publicist Olim of the PMK/HBH agency.
During their working relationship, Kidman won an Oscar for The Hours, and a nomination for Moulin Rouge, reports the Daily Telegraph.
According to DeadlineHollywood.com, Kidman has appointed publicist Leslee Dart who also looks after Tom Hanks, Jessica Lange, Clive Owen, and Kate Winslet.
However, Wendy Day, who looks after the actress’ Australian affairs told Confidential that she was unaware of Kidman”s new arrangement.
Teen sensation Miley Cyrus has struck a provocative pose in a photoshoot for Elle magazine.
In one of the photos, the ‘Hanna Montana’ star lies draped over a table in a black dress and knee high leather boots.
The 16-year-old has even posted the picture on her Twitter account, urging her fans to go out and buy the magazine.
“Everyone please get my issue of Elle. Every time I do a cover I feel like y”all know me better,” the Sun quoted her as having Twittered.
Cyrus was recently involved in another picture controversy after photos showing her in a risque pose were posted by her latest movie producer on Twitter.
Britney to embrace Judaism?

Pop diva Britney Spears is reportedly planning to convert into a Jew, so that she can marry her boyfriend Jason Trawick.
The ‘Toxic’ singer has been photographed wearing a Star of David necklace during her world tour, and has even recruited a rabbi to help her study the faith.
“Britney wants to try the religion Jason was brought up with,” Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.
Britney has previously “experimented” with other religions.
She was introduced to Jewish mysticism Kabbalah by Madonna in 2003, following which she began wearing the religion’s well-known red string bracelet.
She also dabbled in Hinduism, and even visited a temple in 2006.
Britney was seen wearing Christian jewellery again, most recently during a trip back home to Louisiana in February.
Reality TV star Heidi Montag-Pratt has turned into a fitness guru.
After trying her luck in singing, fashion designing, and dry shampoo line, the ‘The Hills’ star’s new business is a downloadable workout series, developed with trainer Chad Waterbury.
“Staying fit is something I”m really passionate about,” the New York Daily News quoted him as telling People magazine.
“I work out with a strength-and-conditioning coach 90 minutes a day, five days a week,” she added.
The workout features full-body conditioning, with both light and heavy weights done as quickly as possible, so that fat burns faster.
It also contains nutritional advice like avoiding all “white” foods and filling up on lean meats, green vegetables, and fruits.
Cheryl Cole’s alleged plans to appear on US version of talent show X-Factor may suffer a setback due to her thick Geordian accent which Americans seem to fail to understand.
TV mogul Simon Cowell is reportedly keen on the singer to front the show but American TV bosses are worried about her strong accent.
In fact, NBC executives flew to Manchester to watch the Newcastle-born in action at the live auditions.
They were reportedly satisfied with everything except the harder edges of her North East tones.

There is also news that the Girls Aloud singer might take elocution lessons to solve the problem.
The source added: “Simon jokingly offered to pay for elocution lessons for her but, seriously, that may be the route she has to take if she is really considering breaking into television over there.”

Actress-turned-director Foster will also be in front of the camera as Gibson’s wife.
Kyle Killen has written the script, Variety reports.
Steve Golin and Keith Redmon of Anonymous Content, which has produced films like ‘Babel’ and ‘Eternal Sunshine on Spotless Mind’, are expected to produce it.
The financing for the approximately 19-million-dollar project is not finalized but there are reports that Golin might go the indie route, as he did with Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu”s “Babel.”
There is also a possibility of Gibson”s production company Icon getting involved.
It has distribution shingles in territories such as the U.K. and Australia.
